What is Arbitrum?
Arbitrum (ARB) is the governance token of Arbitrum, one of the most widely used layer-2 networks for Ethereum. Developed by Offchain Labs, Arbitrum uses optimistic rollup technology: it processes transactions off Ethereum's main chain and posts them back in compressed form, making fees much lower while still relying on Ethereum for security.
Arbitrum One, the main network, hosts a large ecosystem of DeFi apps, trading platforms and games, and it consistently holds one of the largest shares of value among layer-2 networks. Arbitrum Orbit lets projects launch their own chains using Arbitrum technology, and Stylus allows smart contracts written in languages such as Rust.
ARB holders govern the Arbitrum DAO, voting on upgrades and on how the DAO's large treasury is spent. Transaction fees on Arbitrum are paid in ETH, not ARB.
