What is Bitcoin Cash?
Bitcoin Cash (BCH) was created in August 2017 as a hard fork of Bitcoin, after a long debate over how Bitcoin should scale. Supporters of Bitcoin Cash wanted bigger blocks so more transactions could fit on the main chain, keeping fees low for everyday payments.
BCH follows Bitcoin's basic rules, including proof-of-work mining, a 21 million coin supply limit and halvings about every four years. Its larger block size lets it process many more transactions per block, and fees are usually a fraction of a cent. The network has also added features such as CashTokens, which let users create tokens and simple smart contracts directly on the chain.
Anyone who held bitcoin at the time of the fork received the same amount of BCH. Today Bitcoin Cash is used mainly as a payment coin and is accepted by some merchants and payment processors.
