What is Dash?
Dash (DASH) is a cryptocurrency focused on fast, low-cost digital payments. It launched in 2014, first as XCoin and then as Darkcoin, before becoming Dash, short for "digital cash". It was based on Bitcoin's code but added features aimed at making everyday payments easier.
Dash uses a two-tier network. Miners secure the blockchain with proof-of-work, while masternodes, which require 1,000 DASH as collateral, provide extra services. These include InstantSend, which confirms payments in about a second, CoinJoin for optional privacy, and ChainLocks, which protect the network against certain attacks.
Dash was one of the first cryptocurrencies to fund its own development from the blockchain itself. A share of each block reward goes to a treasury, and masternode owners vote on which projects receive funding.
