What is Ethena?
Ethena (ENA) is the governance token of Ethena, the protocol behind the USDe synthetic dollar. USDe keeps a dollar value by pairing crypto holdings with offsetting short futures positions, a strategy that earns income from staking rewards and futures funding payments.
ENA holders can vote on important decisions about the protocol, such as which assets back USDe, how risk is managed and how new products are launched. Staking ENA can give access to rewards from Ethena and its partner projects. The protocol has also launched other products, including a dollar token designed for regulated institutions.
ENA was released in 2024, with part of the supply distributed to early users through an airdrop. The token's value is closely tied to the growth of USDe and the income the protocol generates.
