What is Flare?

Flare (FLR) is a layer-1 blockchain focused on data. It launched in 2023 and is designed to give smart contracts reliable access to information from other blockchains and the outside world, such as prices and payment confirmations.

Flare includes two built-in data systems. The Flare Time Series Oracle provides frequent price feeds from a large group of independent data providers. The Flare Data Connector lets apps verify events that happened on other chains or on the internet. Using these, Flare's FAssets system brings tokens such as XRP and bitcoin onto Flare so they can be used in DeFi apps.

FLR is used to pay fees, to stake and delegate to data providers and validators, and to vote on governance. Flare is compatible with Ethereum, so developers can use familiar tools to build on it.
