GHO is a decentralized US dollar stablecoin created by Aave, one of the largest lending protocols in DeFi. It launched in 2023 and aims to keep a value of one dollar.
Users mint GHO by borrowing it against collateral they have supplied to Aave, much like taking out a loan. Because GHO is created directly by the protocol, the interest paid by borrowers goes to the Aave DAO rather than to other lenders. Holders can stake GHO to earn rewards and help protect the system.
GHO is governed by AAVE token holders, who decide its interest rates and other key settings. It is available on Ethereum and several layer-2 networks, and it is used across DeFi for lending, trading and payments.
