Hedera (HBAR) is a public network that uses hashgraph, a consensus algorithm invented by Leemon Baird, instead of a traditional blockchain. Hashgraph lets nodes share information through a "gossip about gossip" process, reaching consensus with fast finality, fair ordering of transactions and very low, predictable fees.

Hedera is governed by a council of well-known organizations, including large technology companies, banks and universities, which run nodes and oversee decisions. The network offers services for tokens, smart contracts compatible with Ethereum tools, and a consensus service that apps use to timestamp and order data. Its fees are set in US dollars, so costs stay predictable for businesses.

HBAR is used to pay fees and to stake to help secure the network. Its total supply is fixed at 50 billion. Hedera is widely used for enterprise applications such as supply chain tracking, carbon credits and payments.
