What is TRON?
TRON (TRX) is a layer-1 blockchain founded by Justin Sun in 2017. It started with a focus on digital content and entertainment but has become best known as a payments network, especially for the Tether (USDT) stablecoin. A large share of all USDT transfers worldwide happen on TRON because transactions are fast and fees are low.
TRON uses a delegated proof-of-stake system in which TRX holders vote for 27 Super Representatives who produce blocks. Users can freeze TRX to receive bandwidth and energy, the resources needed to send transactions and run smart contracts, which can make everyday transfers very cheap or even free for active holders. The network is compatible with Ethereum's smart contract language, so many tools and apps can move over easily.
Beyond stablecoin transfers, TRON hosts DeFi platforms such as JustLend and SunSwap, and the USDD stablecoin. TRX supply changes over time through block rewards and fee burns, and during periods of heavy use the network has been deflationary.
