What is Worldcoin?
Worldcoin (WLD) is the token of World, a project co-founded by Sam Altman and Alex Blania with the aim of creating a global digital identity and financial network. Its main idea is "proof of personhood": a way to prove online that you are a real, unique human, which is becoming more important as AI makes bots harder to spot.
To get verified, people visit a device called the Orb, which scans their iris and creates a World ID without storing the raw image. Verified users can use World App to hold crypto, make payments and log in to supported services. The project also runs World Chain, an Ethereum layer-2 network that gives priority to verified humans.
WLD is used for governance and rewards in the World ecosystem, and verified users have received regular token grants. The project has faced privacy questions and regulatory scrutiny in several countries because of its biometric data collection.
