What is Aerodrome Finance?
Aerodrome Finance (AERO) is the token of Aerodrome, the leading decentralized exchange on Base, the Ethereum layer-2 network built by Coinbase. It launched in 2023 and was built by the team behind Velodrome, a popular exchange on Optimism.
Aerodrome uses a vote-escrow model. Users lock AERO to receive veAERO, which lets them vote on which liquidity pools receive new AERO rewards each week. In return, voters earn the trading fees and incentives from the pools they support. This setup makes Aerodrome the main place where projects on Base attract liquidity for their tokens.
The design gives AERO holders a direct share of the exchange's fees and a say in where rewards go, making it one of the most important DeFi protocols in the Base ecosystem.
