What is Aptos?
Aptos (APT) is a layer-1 blockchain launched in 2022 by Aptos Labs, a team that includes former engineers from Meta's Diem project. It is built for speed, security and ease of upgrade, with transactions confirming in well under a second.
Aptos uses the Move programming language, which was designed to make smart contracts safer by treating digital assets as resources that cannot be copied or lost by accident. Its Block-STM engine processes many transactions in parallel, helping the network handle heavy activity. Aptos has attracted tokenized asset projects from large financial firms as well as payments and consumer apps.
APT is used to pay gas fees, to stake with validators that secure the network and to vote on governance proposals. The network can be upgraded smoothly without disruptive forks.
