What is Sui?
Sui (SUI) is a layer-1 blockchain developed by Mysten Labs, a team founded by former engineers from Meta's Diem project. It launched its mainnet in 2023 and is built to handle large numbers of transactions with very fast finality and low fees.
Sui uses the Move programming language and an object-based data model, where assets are stored as objects with clear owners. Simple transactions that only touch one owner's objects can be processed in parallel without waiting for global agreement, which helps the network scale. Features such as zkLogin let people create wallets with familiar accounts like Google, making onboarding easier.
The SUI token is used to pay gas fees, to stake with validators and to vote on governance. Its total supply is capped at 10 billion. Sui's ecosystem includes DeFi platforms, games and consumer apps, and it has grown quickly since launch.
