What is Hyperliquid?
Hyperliquid (HYPE) is a layer-1 blockchain designed first and foremost for trading. It is best known for its on-chain perpetual futures exchange, which offers an experience close to a centralized exchange, with a fully on-chain order book, fast confirmations and no gas fees for trading, while users keep custody of their funds.
The network runs on its own consensus mechanism, HyperBFT, and also includes HyperEVM, an Ethereum-compatible environment where developers can build lending markets, stablecoins and other DeFi apps that connect directly to Hyperliquid's liquidity. Spot trading, vaults and builder-created markets add to its range.
HYPE is used for staking, gas on HyperEVM and trading fee discounts. The project is known for its community-first launch: a large share of the 1 billion total supply went to early users through an airdrop, with no venture capital allocation, and a portion of protocol revenue is used to buy back HYPE on the open market.
