What is Ripple USD?
Ripple USD (RLUSD) is a US dollar stablecoin issued by Standard Custody & Trust Company, a subsidiary of Ripple, under the supervision of the New York State Department of Financial Services. It launched at the end of 2024 and is backed by US dollar deposits, short-term US Treasuries and other cash equivalents.
RLUSD is designed for payments and settlement, especially for businesses and financial institutions moving money across borders. It runs natively on both the XRP Ledger and Ethereum, and Ripple uses it in its payment products alongside XRP.
Ripple publishes monthly reserve attestations from an independent accounting firm. RLUSD's regulated status and Ripple's ties to banks and payment companies have helped it gain adoption among institutions.
