What is Sky?
Sky (SKY) is the governance token of Sky Protocol, the upgraded and rebranded version of MakerDAO, one of the oldest DeFi projects. It replaced MKR in 2024, with each MKR convertible into 24,000 SKY. Sky Protocol is built around the USDS stablecoin, the successor to DAI.
SKY holders vote on how the protocol is run, including interest rates, which assets back USDS and how revenue is used. SKY can also be staked in the Staking Engine to earn rewards and to support governance, and users can earn SKY by supplying USDS to certain parts of the protocol.
Sky Protocol generates revenue from its lending and reserve assets, and part of it has been used to buy back SKY on the open market. The ecosystem grows through Stars, semi-independent projects that build new products on top of USDS.
