What is Shawords?

Shawords is a curated digital library of Urdu shayari and quotes from the greatest poets and thinkers in history — Mirza Ghalib, Allama Iqbal, Faiz Ahmad Faiz, Rumi, and many more. Every sher and quote is available in three scripts: Urdu, Hindi, and Roman — so anyone can read and feel the poetry regardless of the script they know.

Shawords Dictionary

We are building one of the most comprehensive free Urdu dictionaries online. Each word entry includes meanings in English and Hindi, the word's origin (Arabic, Persian, Sanskrit), synonyms, antonyms, and literary examples from classical poetry. Our goal is to make Urdu accessible to everyone.

Our Mission

Urdu is one of the world's most poetic languages — rich, expressive, and deeply connected to centuries of literary tradition. Yet for many people, especially those who didn't grow up reading the script, this poetry remains out of reach. Shawords exists to change that.

We believe great poetry belongs to everyone. By presenting shayari in multiple scripts with meanings and context, we hope to bring more people closer to this beautiful literary tradition.
