"I never wanted it to be a group of teenagers who were pally from the very start. I hate that convention in teen drama where they meet and instantly become high-fiving friends for no apparent reason. I felt I had to really work for that as a writer and earn the right for them to have a relationship. Its a gradual process; it has to feel organic. When one of the characters gets in trouble in episode two, they dont immediately say, "Yes, let us help you, now we are the Fantastic Four we must work together to fight crime!" It cant work like that."
